For two days, 25 female researchers from IN-CODE, from student assistants to PhD students to group leaders, left the lab behind and met at Kloster Frauenberg in Fulda. We discussed questions many scientists face: Which career path suits me – academia, industry, science journalism, foundation work, science management or something else? And how can I be a good team leader, whichever path I choose? Personal stories from Sarah Melzer (PI at MedUni Vienna), Sophie Koszinowski (PhD, working in the pharmaceutical industry), Stefanie Uhrig (PhD, working as a freelance journalist) and Sandra Schmitz (PhD, working at a foundation, with longstanding experience in science management) showed the many paths to a fulfilling career.
Between inspiring workshops by Elena Lichtenthaler and Matthias Mayer, the sunny monastery terrace and the historic walls once again offered us a picturesque setting to think, talk and connect. Many thanks to everyone – we are taking lots of energy back into our everyday research!
